WHO WE ARE

We are a group of 5 students based in Maynooth University. We want to raise awareness about the threats that face our pollinators, both in Ireland and around the world. We believe if we give people the information and tools to find out what they can do as individuals and within their community, change can happen. There is a lot of dense information out there about bees and pollinators. We hope to provide a space that is accessible to everyone, not just academics or environmentalists, but anyone who cares, who is interested, who is concerned, who wants to see change, but feel helpless. We know that small individual changes alone is not enough to tackle the large issues facing our pollinators, and we know that governments and corporations have their part to play in regulating the use of harmful pesticides and carbon emissions to battle climate change, which threatens not just humans or pollinators but all life on earth. However, we also believe change starts at the bottom. We believe that increasing individuals awareness and individual change can bring about a type of change which is as powerful as big governments and corporations - social change. We believe if we can achieve this, everything else will follow. The more we care on an individual level, the more our representatives will care. The more conscious we are of harmful consumer products, the more we can challenge these and demand products which are pollinator friendly.

Not everyone can dedicate their life to bee conservation, nor does everyone have the time or resources to keep bees, after all, we're busy bees ourselves! We want to help the farmer who cares, the busy worker who wishes they had more time, the community leader looking to improve their area and the broke student who wants to save the world - there's something here for everyone. So take a few minutes from your busy schedule to buzz around our website, learn something new through our useful links, watch our interviews with bee enthusiasts, check out some events near you, follow us on social media and find out what you can do to Bee The Change.

WHY WE NEED POLLINATORS

In short, pollinators are necessary for the survival of all of earth's ecosystems and to help plants reproduce, so we need them for pretty much everything that we eat.
A lack of pollination would mean food supply shortages which we want to avoid!

This article is a more in depth explanation into why we need pollinators.

Instead of taking pollinators for granted we need to make a conscious effort to be more mindful of our pollinators! We've compiled some easy tips for this here.

If you are a bee enthusiast, expert, organisation.... We want to hear from you!

We hope to provide a platform to gather resources for people to explore and learn from. We hope to share links to articles, organisations working on bee and pollinator conservation and events both in Ireland and around the world.  If you are involved in bee and pollinator conservation, if you are hosting an event or if you are a bee keeper, get in touch! We would love to hear from you and your work, your views, your advice and indeed - your bees!
