In your garden...

You may think that there isn't much you can do by yourself to help the bees and other pollinators, but here's a list of easy things you can do at home to help our buzzy friends out!

Have an idea that you don't see here? Bee sure to let us know on one of our social media platforms!

  • Avoid Harmful Pesticides...
Many pesticides are harmful to bees. These pesticides will keep our bee-autiful friends away, as well as putting their lives in danger. If you really need to use a pesticide, try buying organic pesticides and only spraying plants at night when our pollinators are less active! Try to stay away from pesticides that contain neonicotinoid as this chemical is particularly harmful to bees!

  • Plant Flowers!
Flowers are a great way to help keep bees alive and thriving! Flowers feed bees, as well as keeping your garden looking beautiful!
Some tips for planting flowers for bees include:
    - Making sure there are flowers in bloom all year! This means having flowers that bloom through every season - not just spring and summer! Some bees are around all year and need the food.
-Try to plant your flowers in small patches because bees like to stay on one flower species at a time.
-Avoid hybrid flowers as they have very little pollen for our pollinator friends. Some hybrid flowers include tulips and roses. Find out more about hybrid flowers here

  • Make a Bee Hotel!
Bee hotels are a great way to give bees and other insects a place to stay! Bee hotels are a lot like human hotels - they provide a comfy place to stay and even give breakfast!
There are many inexpensive ways to create a bee hotel in your garden, and there are plenty of online tutorials to help you along the way!
Bee sure to check out some of these links on how to make your very own bee hotel!
